American Business Women’s Day: Creating a legacy of empowerment

As a women-owned business, American Business Women’s Day is a meaningful day for The Resources Group (TRG) and other women-owned businesses around the country. American Business Women’s Day commemorates the contributions and achievements of the millions of women workers and business owners in the United States. Since 2014, the number of women-owned businesses has grown by 21 percent to about 13 million in 2019, according to American Express. TRG CEO Jennifer Barr’s professional, personal journey, and values have influenced an inclusive workplace culture. She has created a company that is ready to address the changes and challenges of the workplace to be more diverse and inclusive.

TRG’s values and value

TRG believes strongly in collaboration. Whether among the internal team of consultants or in partnership with clients, collaboration is at the heart of TRG’s values and drives the outcomes we achieve. Simply put, our goal is to utilize each team member’s gifts and ensure that every team member loves the work they do. “TRG is built on this,” Barr says when it comes to positioning the TRG team to help clients be successful. After years of learning from other entrepreneurs, she created an organization focused on continuously improving what we do and how we do it. Barr is a firm believer in life-long learning and applies this to the work culture at TRG, which she says is “evolving every day.”

TRG’s legacy of empowerment

During the last two decades, there has been a significant cultural shift in businesses and creating an inclusive and diverse work environment. TRG recognizes these shifts and is proud to be part of this cultural shift by empowering women business owners and women’s careers. We are a Women-Owned Certified Business, which gives us access to a vast network of support, including targeted business opportunities for certified women-owned firms, increased visibility in corporate and government supply chains, education and development programs to spur growth and increase capacity, and networking and mentorship opportunities with thousands of women entrepreneurs and those who support them.

As a proudly woman-owned business, TRG has committed to creating a legacy of empowerment for the women who work for TRG and all our clients. TRG takes progressive measures to spread awareness and be inclusive in the workplace. For example, TRG has recently hired a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) practitioner to ensure DEI is embedded in everything we do. “We are at a unique time in history,” Barr says. “As we look back on this from an HR and change perspective, we must do something to make the world a better place for women and all underrepresented groups.”

Celebrate today continue empowering all individuals

As we celebrate American Business Women’s Day, TRG strives to set an example of a woman-owned business. Incorporating equity and inclusivity in the workplace is a lot more than simply hiring a DEI practitioner and holding workshops. These values are something that TRG works towards every day and makes integral at the heart of the company. Having an open dialogue and being authentic are very important to our working culture. The TRG team understands that creating a safe space where people feel comfortable sharing their stories, backgrounds, and concerns is key to maintaining an ethical business. Every employee and client are treated equally regardless of role or expertise, which is exactly the legacy TRG wants to have. At TRG, success is something that goes far beyond how much revenue the company makes. Success is a never-ending pursuit of learning and growing.
